Helping Children to Keep a Clean Room by Giving Them a Little Slack

It will be easier for your kids to learn to keep their rooms clean if you as the parent do not go to extremes. You do not want to be so relaxed about their rooms that the room turns into a disaster zone before anyone takes action. However, you also do not want to pressure your kids to have a room with nothing being out of order.

Do not overwhelm your kids with the task of keeping their room clean and they are more likely to keep a neat room. Pick your battles in terms of their room. You do not want them to have a floor that no one can see. Of course, you do not want dirty clothes or trash lying around their room. However, you can be a little flexible if they have a toy or two that they leave out or their bed is not made as perfectly as you would like.

You should not stress your kids out over their room too much as long as it is relatively clean and organized. If they have a few things out of place here and there, don’t worry so much. If they do not clean things exactly the way you would, relax they are just kids. Kids are more likely to respond to cleaning their room if you use words of encouragement rather than negativity.

Do not allow your child to have their room in a total mess and then demand that they clean it up in one afternoon. Your child with be overwhelmed at the thought of an afternoon of cleaning. You should instead ask your child to clean up a little each day. Even asking them to clean for 15 minutes a day can go a long way.

If you do not stress too much about your child’s room, you will actually see better results than if you panic over the state of their room and look for perfection at every turn.
